SUMMARY:Harvesting Grains - Volunteering Session
DESCRIPTION:This year’s grain harvest is going to be Lauriston’s biggest so far. We have 2100 square metres of Granton Rouge D’Ecosse to harvest as well as the same amount of a Hebridean landrace of Oats and Rye and several smaller trial plots. \nWe also don’t yet have any of the machinery that larger farms would usually use to harvest and thresh their grain! So we need to go back to the old ways and depend on our community of many hands to help us get in the grains. \nThe activity is very weather dependent. Ideally we need good dry weather for this week. The volunteer sessions will be cancelled and postponed to other dates if the weather is not suitable. \nPlease sign up if you are available\, and we’ll email with any updates: https://volunteersignup.org/KP7TQ

SUMMARY:Harvesting Grains – Volunteering Session (The Final Push!)
DESCRIPTION:Thank you to all the participants so far – we’ve had a great time and got all the Hebridean heritage grain crop in (oats and rye). This week it’s all about the wheat – it is READY and there is an acre to harvest. We’d love your help. This partnership with Granton Community Gardeners is all about growing nutritious food locally – for the north Edinburgh community to eat! And bringing it in by hand is the old\, community way of doing things – a great chance to connect with your food and your neighbours… \nTwo sessions today – come for either one or bring a picnic and make a day of it… \nPlease sign up if you are available on the planned days\, and we’ll email with any updates: \n\nhttps://volunteersignup.org/KP7TQ
