SUMMARY:Market Stall
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the farm gate\, where we will be selling our fresh-picked veg grown right here in the Market Garden at Lauriston Agroecology Farm\, along with goodies from our stall partners…  Across the season\, we will have bread and pastries from Granton Garden Bakery\, mushrooms and tinctures from Rhyze Mushrooms\, potted wildflower plants grown by Lauriston Wildflowers\, herbal remedies from Grass Roots Remedies\, free range eggs from Croft Organics (supplies of these will be steadier this year as they also now supply our CSA veg bag scheme)\, and open pollinated veg and herb seeds from Seeds of Scotland. Later in the season\, Wakibia & Co will be selling African and Asian vegetables of cultural significance\, grown here at the farm. \nThe stall offer will vary a wee bit from week-to-week with seasonal produce\, and sometimes with the ups and downs of growing and making things as small indie organisations. But we’ll always have a selection of good things! \nCome along for a chat and a browse\, and get your fresh produce straight from the farm. We can take cash and card payments. Looking forward to seeing you… \n  \nIf You Haven’t Been Before\nThe Market Stall is held in the farmyard\, in front of the ‘Welcome’ portacabin\, through the gate at the back of the Toby Carvery car park (EH4 5EX). \nClick here for directions to the farm \nIt is level access (no stairs\, one incline at the gate) from the tarmac of the car park onto a rough compacted stone path\, suitable for most wheelchairs and mobility scooters. The stall is outdoors on this path\, in most weathers.

SUMMARY:Market Garden Volunteering
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday mornings 10:00-12:00 to help out in the Market Garden\, and experience veg growing at a large scale \nVolunteer Sign up here: https://volunteersignup.org/3LCFJ  \nWe’ll share a coffee and biscuit after\, or you can bring your lunch to enjoy in the gardens. \nYou don’t need any specific knowledge or skills to volunteer in the Market Garden. You do need some energy and to be fairly steady on your feet. Market Garden volunteering sessions can involve quite a bit of walking and physical activity. The tasks are usually ‘big jobs’ where many hands make light work (eg. kneeling or bending to weed\, wheelbarrowing woodchip for paths\, planting a big area with transplants). \nIf you’re worried about your body’s stamina or mobility\, you might prefer to start with the Community Garden drop-in sessions instead. \nBut we don’t ask anyone to go beyond their limits for any task\, and you can always take breaks or rotate between jobs. You are welcome to use this as a way to help you build up your fitness. If you are not sure if it’s right for you\, please email info@lauristonfarm.org with any questions

SUMMARY:Exploring Wildflowers: Nature's Healing Plants
DESCRIPTION:Join the Lauriston Wildflowers team to get a fresh view of “weeds” in this exploration of the specialist plants who are supremely adapted to heal scars in the land and create new life on bare earth and rock. We’ll be getting to know some common species found on and around the farm\, and exploring the different adaptations that enable these plants to thrive where others can’t. We’ll get up close to the tiny and magical worlds of moss and lichen and understand how fungi support plants. \nClick here to book tickets on Eventbrite \nWe hope you will leave with a new appreciation of our pavement and garden “healers”\, as well as some learning from nature about how to discourage weeds if required. We may take a 15 minute walk down to Crammond prom\, or stay around the market garden\, depending on the plants at the time. Join us for a celebration of the remarkable ability of nature to heal. \nYou are welcome to join us for a cuppa at the Wildflower Nursery after the session until 5pm. \nThis session is open to curious people of any age and will be child-friendly. Please let us know if there’s anything particular you need from us to help you or your family participate. The market garden is a 10-15 minute walk across the farm from the main entrance at the Toby Carvery and the Silverknowes bus stops. There is a toilet at the market garden. Please dress for the weather!

SUMMARY:Birdsong Survey Walk (final walk for 2025)
DESCRIPTION:June brings the last of the 2025 survey walks – please join us if you can. \nEvery Spring\, Professor John Frank leads Birdsong Identification Walks around the periphery of Lauriston Farm. These walks are a survey – to count the bird species on the farm\, which is important information for the co-op as we work to increase biodiversity\, and John also uploads the survey results to the national Breeding Bird Survey. \nYou don’t need to know birdsong to be able to attend – John will teach the group how to use the Merlin app for smart phones\, so beginners are more than welcome; it’s a great chance to learn. Sign up to join the June survey walk here: https://volunteersignup.org/XCAC3
