DESCRIPTION:We will be selling fresh-picked veg grown right here in the Market Garden at Lauriston Farm\, full of life and nutrients\, with zero pesticides. We’re also looking forward to joining up with our stall partners again this year… \nNo Granton Garden Bakery bread and pastries at this first stall – these will start next week onwards! Rhyze Mushrooms are tbc this week after a crop failure last weekend in the heat. We will have potted wildflower plants grown by Lauriston Wildflowers\, herbal remedies from Grass Roots Remedies\, and free range eggs from Croft Organics (supplies of these will be steadier this year as they also now supply our CSA veg bag scheme). \nLater in the season\, Wakibia & Co will be selling African and Asian vegetables of cultural significance. \nThe stall offer will vary a wee bit from week-to-week with seasonal produce\, and sometimes with the ups and downs of growing and making things as small indie organisations. But we’ll always have a selection of good things! \nCome along for a chat and a browse\, and get your fresh produce straight from the farm. We can take cash and card payments. SUMMARY:Exploring Wildflowers: Nature's Healing Plants
DESCRIPTION:Join the Lauriston Wildflowers team to get a fresh view of “weeds” in this exploration of the specialist plants who are supremely adapted to heal scars in the land and create new life on bare earth and rock. We’ll be getting to know some common species found on and around the farm\, and exploring the different adaptations that enable these plants to thrive where others can’t. We’ll get up close to the tiny and magical worlds of moss and lichen and understand how fungi support plants. \nClick here to book tickets on Eventbrite \nWe hope you will leave with a new appreciation of our pavement and garden “healers”\, as well as some learning from nature about how to discourage weeds if required. We may take a 15 minute walk down to Crammond prom\, or stay around the market garden\, depending on the plants at the time. Join us for a celebration of the remarkable ability of nature to heal. \nYou are welcome to join us for a cuppa at the Wildflower Nursery after the session until 5pm. \nThis session is open to curious people of any age and will be child-friendly. Please let us know if there’s anything particular you need from us to help you or your family participate. The market garden is a 10-15 minute walk across the farm from the main entrance at the Toby Carvery and the Silverknowes bus stops. There is a toilet at the market garden. (See  Eventbrite listing to book) \nRhyze Mushrooms is a non-profit worker’s coop situated at Lauriston Farm. They harness the decomposing power of mushrooms to grow food from local waste and are in the early stages of a new vermicomposting enterprise. This circular model approach to food production makes use of the spent substrate from mushroom growing\, which is broken down by the composting worms into a nutrient-rich soil amendment perfect for vegetable propagation. \nGrass Roots Remedies are an Edinburgh & Glasgow based workers’ cooperative whose central philosophy is that herbal medicine is the medicine of the people and should be accessible to everyone. They offer a series of practical courses and workshops\, run the Wester Hailes Community Herbal Medicine Clinic\, and the North Edinburgh Community Herbal Clinic in Granton\, support student herbalists with their clinical hours\, grow herbs in the the Blackford Glen Medicine Garden\, and produce simple resources to enable folks to practice herbalism at home.

DESCRIPTION:Join Lauriston Wildflowers for an exploration of the wonderful world of the plants beneath our feet in the lawn and in meadows. Open to curious people of all ages! We’ll be getting familiar with our common grassland wildflowers and some of the insects that visit them\, as well as exploring the adaptations needed by grassland plants to survive. \nClick here to book tickets on Eventbrite \nIn the 20th century\, the UK lost 97% of our wildflower meadows so we will also look at the importance of these ecosystems and how we can care for lawns\, meadows and grassland to encourage more wild plants and animals. \nThis session is for people of any age and will be child-friendly. The nearest toilet will be at the farm or Toby Carvery – around a 10-15 minute walk away from the meadow.
