Find out more about insect-pollinated food (which importantly counts for one third of all of our food ingredients) and taste test! Drop-in between 12:30-2:30pm. Free. All food and herbal teas supplied for tasting. Food supplied till it runs out! A limited number of blankets will be available if it’s chilly. Drop-in to the Wildflower Hill\, near the Toby Carvery farm gate entrance. \n  \nAbout Grass Roots Remedies & Wildflower Stalls\nGrass Roots Remedies Co-op will be selling their carefully crafted herbal products to raise funds for the award winning Wester Hailes Community Herbal Clinic. They have a selection of teas\, tincture blends\, their famous Sair Nae Mair cream\, and some gorgeous artworks from local artists. Come pay them a visit for a browse or a chat and a cup of tea\, they will be around from 10am till 3ish. SUMMARY:Healthy Plant Communities - a special event to open the Community Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:The idea for the Community Kitchen came from the allotment holders at the farm. It will give space to socialise and eat\, to share produce\, and extend the welcome to other local residents. It was funded by the Edinburgh Community Climate Fund\, thanks to the votes we received from supporters. And it was built by hand by many volunteers. \nSo\, the kitchen was made by and for the people in this community – but our community also includes all the plant and animal life too. \nThis is why we have invited Scotland’s Plant Health Centre and other experts to join us for the afternoon. \n  \n \nWe will have info sessions from:\nGerry Sadler: Chief Plant Health Officer for Scotland \nMatt Elliot: Plant Health & Biosecurity Scientist at RBGE \n(and our own) \nRob Davidson: Experienced Ecologist and Orchardist \nLisa Houston: Community Growing Development Coordinator & Earthen Building Expert \nTogether we will explore how plant health connects with wider community health. You can learn how to source seeds safely\, spot signs of plant disease\, get healthy compost\, and protect the wider ecosystem when growing your own fruit and veg. Along with artists Gretchen Maynard-Hayn and Emma Brierley\, you can help us make a useful guide for anyone who has an allotment or veg patch. We’ll be screening a short film in one of the sheds. And you can eat pizza cooked in our new earthen oven! \nIt’s free\, but we do need to know numbers\, so \nplease click here to book a ticket
