SUMMARY:Market Garden Volunteering
DESCRIPTION:The first Market Garden volunteering session of 2026 \nJoin us to help out in the Market Garden\, and experience veg growing at a large scale \nVolunteer Sign up here: https://volunteersignup.org/Y3KTB \nIt’s a two-hour session\, starting at 10am. Please try to arrive on time as we explain and set up all the tasks at the beginning. \nWe’ll share a coffee and biscuit after\, or you can bring your lunch to enjoy in the gardens. \nYou don’t need any specific knowledge or skills to volunteer in the Market Garden. You do need some energy and to be fairly steady on your feet. Market Garden volunteering sessions can involve quite a bit of walking and physical activity. The tasks are usually ‘big jobs’ where many hands make light work (eg. weeding\, wheelbarrowing woodchip for paths\, planting a big area with transplants). \nIf you’re worried about your body’s stamina or mobility\, you might prefer to start with the Community Garden drop-in sessions instead. \nBut we don’t ask anyone to go beyond their limits for any task\, and you can always take breaks or rotate between jobs. You are welcome to use this as a way to help you build up your fitness. If you are not sure if it’s right for you\, please contact us with any questions

SUMMARY:Birdsong Survey Walk
DESCRIPTION:This spring\, for the fifth year\, Prof John Frank will lead Birdsong Identification Walks around the periphery of Lauriston Farm\, once a month from March to June. These walks are a survey – to count the bird species on the farm\, which is important information for the co-op as we work to increase biodiversity\, and John also uploads the survey results to the national Breeding Bird Survey. \nYou don’t need to know birdsong to be able to attend – John will teach the group how to use the Merlin app for smart phones\, so beginners are more than welcome; it’s a great chance to learn. \nSign up to join the March survey walk here: https://volunteersignup.org/LELEQ

SUMMARY:Community Meal Launching the Tattie\, Beans and Peas Project
DESCRIPTION:Launching the North Edinburgh Community Tattie\, Beans and Peas Project\nWith Scran Academy and supported by Sowing Our Horizons \nCome and join us for a delicious meal served up by one of our regular organisational partners. Scran will be bringing their food truck and some of the young people that they work with to serve us a meal in the community garden and allotment space as a way to launch our North Edinburgh Tattie\, Beans and Peas project. \nThe Scran team will then stay on and help us get our first crops sown in the ground. You are also welcome to join us for that. \nThe Scran van will also welcome you all back later in the year once the crops have been harvested for a second\, even more delicious\, harvest meal. \nAs some of you know\, last year\, we had our Great Community Tattie Hoick\, a community-owned patch planted and funded together with organisations in North Edinburgh. In March last year\, over 200 people came together to help plant up a great big plot with a great big variety of tatties. The North Edinburgh Community Festival featured a tattie recipe cooking demo\, and local community members shared tattie recipes. From July to October at the farm\, people came and harvested the lumps of treasure in the soil and brought them to their communities for sharing\, cooking and eating together. The harvesting ended with a fantastic community meal with four varieties of tatties served up by Scran Academy from their much-loved Scran Van. \nTogether with the R2 North Edinburgh Community Festival team\, we decided the food celebration theme for this year should be beans and peas (because they are beautiful and so very\, very good for you). So we are now prepping beds for growing piles of beans and peas to share in our community (with the community helping to sow\, care for and harvest\, share\, cook and eat them). But because the tatties were so universally loved\, we have decided to include a tattie patch too. \nCome along to the meal to hear more about it\, and launch this year’s Tattie\, Beans and Peas project. \nAre you an organisation or community group in North Edinburgh who would be interested to be part of the Tattie\, Beans and Peas project?\nClick here to read how your group could be involved with this year’s patch

SUMMARY:Market Garden Volunteering
DESCRIPTION:Join us to help out in the Market Garden\, and experience veg growing at a large scale \nVolunteer Sign up here: https://volunteersignup.org/Y3KTB \nIt’s a two-hour session\, starting at 10am. Please try to arrive on time as we explain and set up all the tasks at the beginning. \nWe’ll share a coffee and biscuit after\, or you can bring your lunch to enjoy in the gardens. \nNewcomers and auld hands are all very welcome. You don’t need any specific knowledge or skills to volunteer in the Market Garden. If you are not sure if it’s right for you\, please contact us with any questions. Otherwise\,
