Join the Lauriston Wildflowers team to get a fresh view of “weeds” in this exploration of the specialist plants who are supremely adapted to heal scars in the land and create new life on bare earth and rock. We’ll be getting to know some common species found on and around the farm, and exploring the different adaptations that enable these plants to thrive where others can’t. We’ll get up close to the tiny and magical worlds of moss and lichen and understand how fungi support plants.

We hope you will leave with a new appreciation of our pavement and garden “healers”, as well as some learning from nature about how to discourage weeds if required. We may take a 15 minute walk down to Crammond prom, or stay around the market garden, depending on the plants at the time. Join us for a celebration of the remarkable ability of nature to heal.
You are welcome to join us for a cuppa at the Wildflower Nursery after the session until 5pm.
This session is open to curious people of any age and will be child-friendly. Please let us know if there’s anything particular you need from us to help you or your family participate. The market garden is a 10-15 minute walk across the farm from the main entrance at the Toby Carvery and the Silverknowes bus stops. There is a toilet at the market garden. Please dress for the weather!
