Allotments spaces full for 2023
New groups have started and we are now full for 2023 – more allotment spaces next year…
We now have a total of 28 allotments started in the Community Allotment site (the first fenced area behind the Toby Carvery car park entrance). It’s been really great to see new groups getting started. For now, we are not taking on any more applications – spaces are filled for 2023. Next year, we will add more groups to the site. When we open for new applications again, we will announce it in the newsletter, on our social media and here on the website.
The Community Allotment groups are a mix of local residents who have banded together to grow food, and local groups and organisations who run projects and services for the neighbourhood and city. Each group takes care of an allotment. They also help each other, and we have a regular band of volunteers who join in on the drop-in sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
It’s a thriving community growing and sharing food. Last year, the groups came up with the idea of having a shelter on the site to make it easier to share produce – and the idea for the earthen built community kitchen was born! We applied to the Edinburgh Community Climate Fund – and won funding by public vote (the single most popular project on a brilliant list). Work has started – more on this to come…
If you’d like to find out more and get involved with the allotments, come along to a drop-in (dates and times are on the events calendar). Beginners and newcomers always welcome. See you there!
