Farmyard is Now an On-leash Area
The farmyard (between the South gate from Toby Carvery car park and the wildflowers viewpoint/ gazebo) is now an ‘on-leash’ area for all dogs. We know this may be frustrating for some dog walkers, and we ask for your understanding and support when we explain why we need this…

The farmyard is now an on-leash area – all dogs must be on leads while in the farmyard.
We know it’s annoying to have to put a calm dog on a lead in a safe area. But having off-leash dogs in the farmyard is causing significant issues for the farm. It’s making it difficult to keep this a calm, safe and welcoming space for community activity – one of our main purposes. We even know there are people who don’t come to farm events and activities because they’re afraid of all the dogs. We need to do something about it, and we think having all dogs on leads in this area will make a big difference…
For Safety
There are a LOT of people coming through this area with dogs. There have been some concerning incidents, and a lot of conflict. We need to step in before something more serious happens.

For Community Wellbeing
Off-leash dogs are scaring people and wildlife, and creating a chaotic atmosphere. This is affecting our projects, events and education programme, our accessibility, and overall community wellbeing.

For Hygiene
In this farmyard, we have our seasonal Market Stall selling fresh food, tree surgeons leave clippings that we spread on vegetable plots, and we gather for community events. Off-leash dogs toileting all over the farmyard is a health hazard and not all visitors are picking up after pets.

Can we have your support?
We know we have many dog walkers who are great supporters of the farm – likely including you, as you have taken the time to read this post. There will also be many who don’t read our information and aren’t aware of how this is affecting the farm’s work. We are sure no-one means any harm – certainly not the dogs! But we know it may take some time to get the message to everyone.
You can really help by keeping dogs on-leash in the farmyard (and Community Allotments) – even the most mellow and steady dogs, and even if others are not. Please ‘lead’ the way! If you are passionate about the work of the farm and feel able to spread the word, please do. The farm team needs as much support as possible on this issue.
