There are many different kinds of radio show. Some – perhaps the best known ones – involve a presenter or DJ sitting in a studio playing music, interspersed with brief introductions and chat. These are the easy ones!

The kinds of shows we call ‘feature programmes’ are rather more involved, and require a lot of time, planning and hard work to make. Those are the kind we will focus on in this workshop. We need to think about such things as themes, interviews, music, scripting, presenting and site visits (called OBs or ‘outside broadcasts’), as well as learning how to operate the recording equipment, and stitching it all together at the end to make an interesting, seamless programme!
This workshop will give you a base level introduction to these processes. For those who are interested in carrying on, there may be chances over the summer to get involved in making a feature programme about the preparations for the Harvest Festival at Lauriston.
