Regular visitors will know we installed three waymarked routes around the farm in November last year. But we had a very overgrown path on the north side, nearest the shoreline, on the ‘red route’. The good news is we have now managed to clear this with some brilliant volunteers, so you don’t need to hack your way through the brambles on the red route. It can still be very muddy – we will be adding gravel to the path when we can.

New Maps With the Routes Going Up at Main Entrances

The map (above) will look familiar from before, but after a few delays, we’ve had them updated with the waymarked routes, and are installing them at the main entrances around the site.

There are also benches positioned around the routes, so you can rest and enjoy the view. You are welcome to take a daunder around the farm, see what we’re up to, connect with the land and soak up the incredible view. Pick the walk that suits you – feel free to use the routes to build up your fitness, or dally for as long as you like.

Access Notes for the Waymarked Routes

We have put down stones at entrance points, to make rough stone paths where it used to get very muddy. The waymarked routes all go off the stone paths onto uneven, rough, sloping, grassy ground, which can still be muddy in places. There are benches at points along the routes. There are no steps or styles on any of the routes. Please contact us if you have specific access questions.

+ Works Starting on the Cramond Storm Overflow

Caledonian Water (on behalf of Scottish Water) are planning to start works on the Cramond Storm Overflow in September. They will be setting up their site access point at the farm entrance gate off Cramond Road North. From what we know so far, there will be works to enable large trucks to enter and exit, because that gate will be their site entrance, with their portacabins going into the neighbouring field. We don’t yet know how this will impact walkers and what provisions are being made for pedestrian access. But it should still be possible to walk around the market garden fenceline as before – just please be extra careful at that entrance point, with the increase in traffic.
